Our Purpose

The purpose of Christian Women’s Job Corps , a ministry of WMU , is to provide a Christian context in which women in need are equipped for life and employment; and a missions context in which women help women.

Our Goals for each CWJC Participant

  • Begin and/or grow in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, then celebrate!

  • Complete job readiness and life skills program(s), then celebrate!

  • Fulfill CWJC purpose, then celebrate!

  • Give back to the CWJC program, then celebrate!

How CWJC Works

CWJC is a growing international program.

In the fulfillment of the purpose statement, every CWJC participant who completes her program is equipped for sustaining success in her life and employment. Each site must operate with these eight key elements:

  • Advisory Council
  • Bible Study
  • Certification training for site coordinator
  • Covenants
  • Evaluation
  • Mentors
  • Needs assessments of participant and communities
  • Networking

After reaching and maintaining self-sufficiency, former graduates are encouraged to “give back” to their CWJC program. Former participants are now serving as mentors, instructors, and volunteers in other areas of the ministry.

Who are the women we help?

Our heart is that no woman in need will slip through the cracks. We know we cannot help everyone but we offer this hope to women, 18 or older, clean/sober for at least 30 days.

What happens in a typical CWJC program?

Women receive training in life skills and job readiness. Each ministry is customized to meet the needs of women and their community which may include, but not limited to computer training, literacy improvement, job interview skills, resume writing, how-to complete a job application, how-to budget your household.

What makes us different from other job readiness programs?

Each woman is involved in Bible Study. She is also matched with a trained Christian woman who will be her mentor as she travels the road from dependency to self-sufficiency.

Is CWJC just for Baptists?

NO!

Funding

CWJC sites are coordinated and staffed largely by volunteers. However, each site does need funding which varies based on its program design. Sites are responsible for securing their own financial support. If you would like to contribute, please make your check payable to WBA - CWJC and mail it to the address below.

  • Transport a woman to and from work, or her children to or from childcare.
  • List your rental property with the CWJC office for a woman in the program.
  • Repair appliances.
  • Provide childcare for Bible Study or mentor meeting times.
  • Encourage physicians and dentists to donate care for one family.
  • Volunteer to sponsor celebrations for women as they make progress on their goals.
  • Send professional clothing and uniforms to our Boutique.
  • Help with clerical needs at the site.

“In following God’s Commission to go out and spread the word, we first must meet the basic needs of people. I believe the CWJC provides a service for women to improve themselves while hearing the word of GOD. My Christian faith urges me to help others and in doing so teach about God’s love. How could you not help with the CWJC?”

Mary Barnhill, Advisory Council, Wilmington, NC

I believe that CWJC will revolutionize the lives of many women and children who are suffering from the ravages of poverty. This program will offer Christian love, friendship, encouragement, and mentoring as women help women reach the potential God intended them to have.”
